Vet clinic worker begs owner who wants to euthanize her cat for no reason to let her adopt her instead, only to discover her bonded sister is still with the same owner; months of convincing finally reunite the heartbroken sisters

There are some people who deserve cats, and some people who should not lay a single finger on them in their lives.

Cats, generally, are relatively easy animals to take care of. They sleep, they eat, they use the litter box, and for the most part, that is all that they really, truly need. Of course, some cats need a little more. Some cats are sick and need medical help more often than others. Some cats have behavioral issues, and it is your job, as their human, to figure out what they are, what they stem from and how to help. But some humans, like the one in AquaticByNature's story on Reddit… are not interested in helping.

When we first read his story, we were shocked. Not by the fact that this owner brought their cat into the vet to be euthanized. Not by them doing it despite the fact that the cat is completely healthy. It's horrific, but we have seen this before. Some humans are just- bad humans, but we're no longer shocked by that. What shocked us was the fact that this owner insisted on euthanasia even after having a vet clinic worker step in and offer to adopt their cat.

AquaticByNature OP I work at a vet clinic, this cat was presented to us because it occasionally has a stool outside of the box. Blood work came back normal, stool tests all normal. Owner insisted we euthanize the cat regardless of the test results as the cat was too much for her.

After days of convincing I finally got her to agree to let me have the kitty instead of euthanasia. Today marks her first day in her new home with me!

The idea that it took days of convincing… is beyond our understanding. We could maybe understand the helplessness, not wanting to deal with a cat that has behavioural issues. But we could never understand bringing it in for this and then not wanting to let someone else have a chance with the cat.

It only more people could live by this motto, everything about the world would be so much better. This is what humans should be like.

ThatPhatKid CanDraw You had to convince her to let you take the cat? She was that into euthanizing? That shouldn't even be an option because a cat sometimes defecates, imo

AquaticByNature OP Thankfully our clinic is not a clinic that would ever euthanize an animal for any reason other than to humanely end its suffering. Other clinics however, are not always the same, sadly.

zanedrinkthis I can't imagine why they needed convincing if you wanted the cat. Glad the cat is safe with you.

AquaticByNature OP Some people would rather euthanize a pet than admit they couldn't take care of it is my guess

k nkydreamerUK Oh gosh, cat tales like this are scary to read but thank you for saving her. I'm no expert but it sounds like maybe a nervous reaction to her previous environment (and owner?) that will ease now.

AquaticByNature OP We absolutely think it is behavioral and a new change will help for sure. Unfortunately the previous owner wasn't interested in making adjustments to her living situation or trying any anxiety medications, but, her new owner is all for it!

I sure hope the owner's family members don't decide to put her down if she gets any medical issues

AquaticByNature OP It breaks my heart when a pet owners love is contingent on health. So quickly they go from loving their pets to no longer wanting them when a health issue arises making their day to day lives more challenging. I try not to cast too much judgement, instead I will be a solution.

AquaticByNature OP August 2023 - I posted about rescuing a cat from a client at the veterinary clinic | work at. The client requested we euthanize the cat (Maxi) for having chronic diarrhea. I begged the client to give her to me, and took her home where she is now eating her prescription food and living her best life.

In the midst of the chaos in Maxi's life - she was also forcibly separated from her bonded litter mate, Mini, as the owner would only give me one at the time. Over the last few months I have seen Maxi go into depre s on over missing her beloved sister.

Today - I was finally able to rescue Mini. Today she came home to her sister, where they spent time purring and rubbing on each other.

They will want for nothing moving forward all their food and vet care will - be top notch, as is what they deserve. Thank you for reading.
